Review of
Outbound Flight
I was introduced to the Expanded Universe of Star Wars in the early 90s when my cousin gave me a copy of Heir to the Empire for Christmas. Zahn's writing drew my in to the universe and I've been stuck there ever since.
Outbound Flight does a great job of telling the story that lead up to the Thrawn trilogy, seamlessly integrating it into the lore that the Prequels brought us.
Thrawn is probably my favorite character in the EU. He is brilliant, calculating, but still caring also. The other characters in the book are all well written.
The struggles between the Chiss, Vagaari, and Outbound Flight were quite thrilling to read. It easily kept me going and I didn't want to put the book down.
The only real downside with this book was the inclusion of Obi-Wan and Anakin. The added nothing to the story, it just seemed like they were thrown in to show they existed during the time line.
