I did go see this in the theater when it released. Me and about 3 other strangers. All guys. All over 20. Zero kids in the theater. Was a little weird. Agree with most about the animation style being sort of jarring. Did feel like a pilot episode on the big screen. Asoka being annoying is funny to be because Anakin was always annoying to be. Asoka is a younger Anakin honestly. They are too of a kind.

The Rotta the Hutt storyline is really, really bad. Some of the worst of the Clone Wars. Luckily, the opening Christophsis part is pretty good so it gets a 2. They should've just made the Christophsis part an episode of the show, and scrapped the Rotta the Hutt stuff. Or, if you really wanted to make a movie, just use the Malevolence arc instead.

It's a TV pilot arc that happened to get a theatrical release. Like most pilots, it has the seeds of what the show will grow into, and it has some very cool moments on its own. It also has some rough patches. I like The Clone Wars on some levels, but it does not truly come into its own until Lair of Grievous for me.

Still not a good movie but I've always liked seeing it just so I can appreciate how Ashoka and Anakin grew as characters as the show goes on.
The mission is really kind of dumb and even the Anakin/Dooku fight isn't as tense as it should be.
I mean, the last fight of this movie is Ashoka fighting 3 Magnaguards and it isn't even that tense either.
I kind of like Rex adamant belief that Anakin will eventually save him and his clones. The fact that Anakin DOESN'T is never adressed again tho.
Oh, and Padmé is in this for 10 solid minutes in this. That's a thing too.
Overall, not very good but nothing overly bad. I guess releasing that in theatre wasn't a great move but seeing Ashoka say "Skyguy" on a giant screen must have been worth the trip.
Right ?

Yeah, the movie isn't that great, but it introduces the series, which I absolutely love! I hate the whole stinky Hutt baby subplot with Jabba's flamboyant uncle. But I appreciate the introduction of Ahsoka and Ventress. And personally, I like the animation style quite a bit.

Overall it was ok, I don't mind the animation. I feel like they could have had a better plot in order to obtain the trade routes rather than save stinky.
It was written for children, so a lot of the "backstabbing/double agent" things were pretty obvious. I hear the series is a lot better and i look forward to that.

I remember this movie bugged the crap out of me when I first saw it in theaters. I went to a midnight release because, of course, it was Star Wars. But then Anakin was assigned a padawan and I was like WHAT??!!? There was never once a mention of Anakin having a padawan before and then this movie just decides to give him one willy nilly?!?!
After rewatching it a few more times it wasn't as bad. Especially knowing that this movie kicks off the TV series which (I hear) is pretty amazing. I look forward to watching it through to the end.

I took my kids to see this in the theater back in the day. Every time I heard the word "Skyguy" I cringed. The movie was definitely written for children. I enjoyed the animation. Never really understood people's fascination with Ahsoka.

In the beginning she is super annoying, but with her character development throughout the series, she becomes one of the best characters in all of Star Wars...

I have never seen The Clone Wars (TV series or this film), so the first thing I noticed is the animation style. I hated it at first, but after a while, I got used to it and just accepted it. It's not good by any means, but it grew on me. Lucas has stated that he wanted the animation to be stylized and critics have panned it for being cheap. I think there is a bit of truth involved in both of these perspectives. Regardless of the rocky animation, I like the deeper dive into the Clone Wars themselves. This is something Obi-Wan references in the first Star Wars film way back in 1977!
The film feels like three episodes strung together with one of the largest action-to-exposition ratios I've ever seen in a movie. We see the introductions of two important (I think) characters in Ahsoka Tano and Ventress. I think Ahsoka is a little annoying here but I am anxious to see what the TV show's creators do with not only these two, but the rest of the characters that are present in the prequels.
The film for me is a 2.5/5, but I will round up due to the launch of a series I am excited to get into.

The beginning of this is much better if you follow the chronological order, but nothing can save the horrible Rotta kidnapping storyline.... thankfully the series is much better then this...
